Tooth-Colored Fillings

A tooth-colored filling restores a tooth after decay or a small area of damage has been removed. Composite resin can be matched to the surrounding tooth, helping repair its shape and chewing surface. At Strive Dental Studio, the amount and location of damage, the condition of the remaining tooth and your bite guide the recommendation. A filling may suit a smaller repair; a larger weakened area may need an inlay, onlay or crown instead.

Tooth-colored fillings commonly use composite resin, a tooth-shaded material with reinforcing fillers. Your dentist can explain the specific material recommended and discuss any known allergies or previous reactions before treatment.

There is no single replacement schedule. Size, location, bite forces, grinding, home care and new decay affect how a filling performs. At checkups, your dentist examines the filling and surrounding tooth and recommends repair or replacement only when indicated.

Composite fillings are widely used, but the appropriate material depends on the tooth and your health history. Tell your dentist about material sensitivities and any prior problems. Ask about the benefits, limitations and alternatives relevant to your situation.

What happens during the appointment

Your dentist confirms the area to be restored, discusses anesthesia when needed, and removes decay or damaged filling material. Composite is placed and hardened, then shaped and polished. We check how your teeth meet so the restoration fits your bite. Before leaving, ask when it is appropriate to eat and what sensitivity you might notice.

Protecting the tooth after a filling

A repaired tooth still needs brushing, cleaning between teeth and regular examinations. Let the office know if the bite feels high, pain persists, or the filling chips. Avoid chewing while numb and follow your dentist’s instructions. If you clench or grind, discuss whether additional protection is appropriate. Treatment cost depends on the size and complexity of the repair; request an estimate before proceeding.
