What are Fluoride Treatments?
Fluoride treatments are helpful in preventing cavities from developing. Tooth decay can become a problem if left untreated and prevention is key so that it doesn’t begin in the first place. If you don’t get enough fluoride through the water you drink or the dental products you’re using, we may recommend fluoride treatments. Children can especially benefit from these additional fluoride applications as a way to preserve their baby teeth.
Why would Fluoride Treatments be needed?
You may need or want fluoride treatments if you’re trying to take steps to further protect your teeth. Fluoride can help to prevent cavities, which in turn helps to prevent the need for fillings, root canals and eventual extraction. Fluoride treatments can be requested at any time and children may need them at each of their bi-annual appointments. We may recommend these treatments if you don’t get enough fluoride at the current moment or are using fluoride-free dental products.
“First appointment, exam and cleaning. They could not have been more pleasant or more professional. Very good first impression, offices neat and clean, staff very well trained, I will be going back.”
Who’s a good candidate for Fluoride Treatments?
Fluoride treatments are easy, noninvasive and can be done in seconds. In fact, if you request treatment during your bi-annual checkup, we can provide treatment right while you’re in the office. There is no special preparation or anesthetic required. We can apply fluoride as needed at each of your checkup appointments.
What happens during Fluoride Treatments?
You will come in and be seated comfortably in one of our examining rooms. We then apply the fluoride liquid to each tooth and will provide you with instructions on when to eat and drink. By avoiding consuming anything for a few hours after treatment, this helps the fluoride to penetrate the teeth fully and offer maximum protection. We can apply fluoride in this manner at all of your checkup appointments as needed. If you have children, we may recommend that they have special fluoride treatments every time they come to see us.
