Dentures and Partials
What are Dentures and Partials?
A partial and full denture help to improve the look of your smile. If you’re missing a lot of teeth or all of your teeth, these prosthetic appliances can enhance your appearance. Partial dentures have just a few false teeth connected to a natural-looking prosthetic appliance. A full denture is meant to replace all of the teeth on either the upper or lower jaw.
Why are Dentures and Partials needed?
You may need a denture if you’re missing a lot of your teeth or if you do not have any teeth. It’s not uncommon for patients to need to have teeth removed before a denture can be fitted and made for them. Many people who have advanced gum disease may be advised to have their remaining teeth removed and a denture put into place. Dentures not only help to improve the look of your face and smile, but they’re detrimental to how well you’re able to eat and chew throughout the day.
“This past visit I saw Dr. Mahale. This was the first time I have seen her. She had a great bed side manner, was gentle, nice and very thorough. “
Who’s a good candidate for Dentures and Partials?
To determine if you’ll need a denture, we’ll perform an exam and take x-rays. We may recommend that you have extractions done before a denture is made. Most patients who need a denture can safely and easily have the procedure done. The denture procedure itself is safe, easy and noninvasive.
What happens during the process for Dentures and Partials?
You will come in and have impressions made of your teeth and gums. These impressions are sent to a local lab where the prosthetic is made just for you. We do a color and gum match so that your new appliance fits and looks as natural as possible. You will then come back into our office for a fitting. It is not uncommon for dentures to need several adjustments before the fit is just right. Most dentures, both full and partials, can last for about seven years before you’ll need to replace them.
