Dental Exams and Cleanings
What are Dental Exams and Cleanings?
A cleaning and exam are necessary to keep your teeth and gums healthy. The exam is performed by our doctors as a way to check for cavities, problems with restorations and other dental-related problems. We even perform an oral cancer screening at your examinations as a way to take precautionary steps towards a healthier mouth. The cleaning is performed by a hygienist who will work to remove tartar and stains from your teeth.
Why are Dental Exams and Cleanings needed?
The reason both exams and cleanings are so important is because they help to prevent problems from occurring while simultaneously spotting issues before they’re allowed to get worse. For example, an exam can spot cavities so that treatment is offered before the decay is allowed to get worse. Cleanings are crucial in removing hardened plaque from your teeth to prevent underlying decay from occurring.
“First appointment, exam and cleaning. They could not have been more pleasant or more professional. Very good first impression, offices neat and clean, staff very well trained, I will be going back.”
Who’s a good candidate for Dental Exams and Cleanings?
Every member of your family is a good candidate for both exams and cleanings. In fact, we recommend first bringing your children to see us when their first baby teeth begin to come through the gums. We advice our patients to come in to see us every six months as part of their ongoing dental care. We are a family-friendly office offering care and treatment to each of your loved ones.
What happens during routine Dental Exams and Cleanings?
The first step is to take x-rays of your teeth. These x-rays are used to check underlying problems and monitor the growth and development of teeth. The cleaning is then done by our hygienist who clears away hardened plaque and stains. The teeth will then be flossed and polished before the gums are checked for signs of gum disease and inflammation. Our doctor will then come into the room and perform the exam. We’re looking for cavities, loose or cracked restorations, oral cancer and other dental-related problems. These appointments should be done once every six months.
