CEREC Crowns

What are CEREC Crowns?

CEREC crowns are different from crowns of the past as they can be made right in the office during your appointment. Instead of having to come back for a second appointment to have the permanent crown placed, the permanent is made for you in our office using a specialized machine. CEREC crowns are convenient and just as durable and long-lasting as traditional crown options. They’re ideal for patients who can’t make multiple trips to the office just to have a crown placed.

Why are CEREC Crowns needed?

You may need a CEREC crown if you have a tooth that’s been compromised. Oftentimes, this occurs when a tooth has broken or cracked. If a tooth has had a root canal, we may recommend that it be crowned to prevent it from breaking at an inopportune time. CEREC technology may be needed by patients who are unable to come for multiple appointments for their crown procedure.

“This past visit I saw Dr. Mahale. This was the first time I have seen her. She had a great bed side manner, was gentle, nice and very thorough. “

Who’s a good candidate for CEREC Crowns?

The majority of our patients who need to have a crown placed can safely make use of CEREC technology. The crowns produced by our revolutionary CEREC machine are incredibly durable and long-lasting. They mimic the permanent crowns that can be made for you in local dental laboratories. We will perform an exam to determine if a crown is right for you.

What happens during the procedure for CEREC Crowns?

The tooth is first filed down and smoothed so that there’s enough room for the actual crown. Digital impressions are taken of the tooth and used in the CEREC machine. These digital impressions are easier and less problematic than gooey traditional impressions. The crown is then made for you while you sit in our office and wait for it. The process is quick and easy, preventing the need for a second appointment. Once the machine has created your new crown, we’ll place it over the tooth and secure it into place. Small adjustments are made so that the crown feels as comfortable as your natural teeth.
